The legend of Santa Claus send us back to the 4th Century due to Bishop Klaus that would have lived somewhere in Turkey.   Beloved by the poor children, whom he used to give presents to, Saint Klaus was honored with a church named after him by the Ortodox Russian Church.

In England, Saint Klaus became "Father Christmas". And, how is Father Christmas called in the United States? This answer has a historical explanation!

When the Dannish immigrants went to the U.S., they took the name "Santa Claus" , what has influenced the American designation. But, do you think that only the English language has two denominations for Santa Claus?

That's not quite true. In our Portuguese language, there are two different names for "Santa Claus". While in Brazil we call him "Papai Noel", the Portuguese name him "Pai Natal", a literal translation from the British English "Father Christmas".

O início da lenda do Papai Noel data do Século IV graças à figura do Bispo Nicolau, que teria vivido naquela época em uma região hoje pertencente à Turquia. Muito querido pelas crianças pobres porque distribuía presentes, São Nicolau acabou sendo homenageado pela Igreja Ortodoxa da Rússia, que construiu uma igreja em seu nome.
